Gujarat polls: 68% voting recorded in first phase of elections
About 68 per cent voting is expected in the first phase of the voting in Gujarat Assembly elections held today. However the election commission will announce the exactly figure for the same, however it is expected that about 68 per cent voting has been done. 

According to the sources, in 2012 assembly elections, the first phase had registered 70.74 per cent voter turnout.

It is noted that for the first pheas of voting in the state, voting was held for the 89 seats of 19 districts of the state. The areas where elections were held todar are Saurashtra and South Gujarat region.

Earlier the Election Commission has put in place an elaborate framework of administrative system, security protocols and procedural checks-and-balances in Gujarat, which prevent any possible misuse of EVMs/VVPATs or procedural lapses in the use of EVMs and VVPATs during polls. 

It is noted that in order to provide 100% voter verifiability and auditability of every vote cast through the EVM, the Commission has deployed Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines in all the 50,128 polling stations in Gujarat excluding Auxiliary Polling Stations.

Needless to say, the election has become very crucial for both the Congress and BJP. Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi has left no stone unturned to come back in the power of the state whereas BJP is trying its best to save its bastion in the state.
